YOU JUST GOT PUNK’D

YOU JUST GOT PUNK’D

Hey Beauties! (am shook that we are a month away from the NEW YEAR! *mindblown*) Listen, its no secret that your gurl isn’t a dress person *ahh covers eyes* now… if the occasion calls for one…I’ll come to werk and make it look like I wear dresses everyday of the week. However, I don’t normally/ever peep at the dresses in any store or online… (We get it MODISH, you don’t wear dresses… chill) One thing I can say is that when I randomly envision an outfit and it calls for a dress, it usually entails a street style spin to the look. Randomness starts now: I love me some vintage punk fashion, from the netted layering to the chained pants and everything in between. I of course knew if I was to ever recreate a look or incorporate those epic pieces of fashion history, I would do it the MODISH CHAMPAGNE way.

Make Up Your Mind Sis!

This entire look started with one piece that I literally walked past at least 5 times on 3 different occasions in Forever 21. Does that ever happen to you? You do the ever so popular skkkrrrtt and are stopped in your tracks, look at the item with a pressed lip and side wink (my thinking face), check the price tag, give it the “meh, not bad” head nod  and then still set it back down or hang it back up? Ya, I did this at least 5 times on different days and it was all thanks to this burnt orange lace slip dress.  I blame digging out my old faithful Dr. Marten’s Leyton boots on this VIBE I felt because as soon as I saw this dress, I immediately envisioned myself in a leather jacket, layered necklaces, and my docs with chunky black socks. A modern twist on a vintage punk vibe, what can I say? My brain just goes into stylist mode anytime I see anything that grabs my attention. The price was more than reasonable and trust me I have  purchased things WAY more expensive with a 20% chance of wearing them but I can’t front and say I was instantly shook and snagged this piece up.

Welcome to MODISH CHAMAGNE’S brain:

I Can’t Make This Up

I find myself wanting to venture out from my signature style and show another side of my creativity every once in awhile so on a random outing I was back in Forever 21 and was immediately attracted to this cropped acid wash/bleached AC/DC shirt and you know your gurl doesn’t pass up on a graphic tee as quickly as she does a dress. *wink* I had seen a similar tee in Urban Outfitters (like almost identical) at 4 times the price and passed on it so there was no excuse for me not to cop this one at Forever and since I was already there and going to stand in that 2 mile long line anyway, (we all know how long the line at forever 21 is ALWAYS) I would give in and snag the lace slip dress I had passed up way too many times. Walking to the display table where I knew it was (since I passed it over 10 times) I could see it at a distance and still loved it! (maybe it was because now I was going to conquer that line that I liked it even more) I held it up to eye ball what size I wanted to purchase and in doing so, my new AC/DC that was draped across my arm slipped down and BOOM the colors together got my wheels turning and your gurl was ON ONE!

Wait… What?

I immediately knew I was going to layer these pieces. I LOVE LIKE LOVE the look of a tee with a spaghetti strap on top, whether it be a dress like this or just a spaghetti strap tank over a tee with some jeans… it’s just everything! I was triggered in the best way and could hear the sparks in my brain just firing off. I had plenty of time to think in the long a** line to checkout and decided I would stick to my original plan to rock my Dr. Marten boots with the chunky black socks, layered necklaces, and some vintage style sunglasses. This outfit wasn’t going to take its place at the end of the lineup, it made its way to the front of the line and I was excited to change it up a bit and rock something I normally don’t gravitate towards. Do I really even have to say… it was the weekend and I was hitting the town? Na, right? Well for our new CHAMPAGNE CLUB members… Your gurl was hitting the town for some tunes and cocktails and was ready to put my creativity to the test. I put on the original idea of a fit with the cute boots and socks etc. and was not feeling it ONE BIT.

Crisis Averted

I felt like I was almost in costume *covers eyes* or trying too hard for lack of better words. I loved the idea of the dress and tee so I just regrouped and started over from there. Don’t ever feel you have to write off a fit because a few things are off. Go back to basics and take one step at a time.. YOU GOT THIS QUEEN! I started with a blank canvas with just the dress and tee and knew immediately I needed some sort of headgear (stick to what you know and love.. be you), I was feeling too “girly” and needed to add something that is ME and makes ME comfortable.  Beanies, hats, caps, those are my jam and always will be, in my head they FIX EVERYTHING! I wasn’t going to stray away from the punkish vibe I originally wanted just because the first fit didn’t work out so I went for a fedora and YES… we were on to something! Once the fedora was on, I had the right touch of “retro feel” and was ready to add my MODISH pieces. I went for my staple gold link choker since I felt silver was giving it more of a boho feel and thought to myself “I have to wear my Comme des Garcons X Nike shox… I just have to!” Putting them on was like adding that garnish to a cocktail.. It was the finishing touch and everything I was wanting without even knowing it.

You Deserve It Sis… Put It In The Bag

Dress | Top

Hat | Shades | Necklace

Purse | Purse Strap | Sneakers

Everything was perfect but I still felt off being in a dresshaha! I clearly have issues seeing myself out of my element.. In my defense this slip dress wasn’t fitted so it was kind of just hanging there, I decided to pull up one side and experiment a bit with how to fix this dilemma (calm down) I ALWAYS wear some form of cycle shorts under dresses (your girl can drop at any moment… maybe the tunes are that good and we are down and GETTIN’ IT or I’m sitting on a curb at 2am eating a slice of pizza.. I don’t want to worry about a DAMN THING) so when I lifted that corner and my shorts peeked through….. gurrllll it wassss aaaaa lewk. I was SOLD instantly and now, I felt like ME. I was feeling myself so much that I tried on different sunglasses until I found the perfect pair to seal the deal and rocked my yellow strapped Off-White purse. The yellow in the strap really gave it that POP and again added that streetwear vibe to a more streetstyle look. It was EVERYTHING!

After wearing this fit from day to night and receiving quite a few compliments, I’m kinda living. You know I got my queens with some of my favorite ways to style a slip dress with a MODISH twist. Don’t give up on your creativity, stick to at least one piece you now you’ll love and work from there, push yourself out of your comfort zone but always stay true to your vibe!

Cheers,
