RETRO’S ALWAYS IN SEASON

RETRO’S ALWAYS IN SEASON

Hey Beauties! (need a shot of tequila and a prayer… right now…it has been a day, let me tell you!) I love the term “retroI love seeing trends and brands I grew up on making their way full circle and coming back at a time that I am 1.) able to dress myself and am no longer at the mercy of my parents taste and bank account and 2.)Genuinely still attracted to the style enough to wear them as a “financially capable” adult *haha* What I love most about my childhood is watching “trendy” teen shows/movies and analyzing all the outfits, colors, and trends on each character I related to. I recall a ton of crazy colors and loud patterns on both the men and women, cool accessories, and alot of layering… some of those trends stayed with me and made their way into my adult life and others… let’s just say I needed a subtle reminder.

That’s So 90’s

Every now and then, the fashion world will give us a little blast from the past and bring our nostalgia levels to “an all time high” making us realize that we now need anything and everything on the market that will keep the trend alive and really remind everyone how far fashion has evolved. I noticed “wind pants” were already making their rounds and were popping up on websites left and right but they weren’t the “wind pants” I remembered… they weren’t the baggy oversized pants that made the loudest swooshing sound every time you took a step or made the slightest of movements. They weren’t the wind pants that had the heavy branding and unique pattern placement

UNTIL…. I WAS lucky enough to have a SIX02 in my local mall and always make it a point to pop in when I’m “in the area” which… we’ll leave it at that because I’m in the area more than I care to admit. Now up until recently, Footlocker owns SIX02 and they just recently shut down all their stores… *Waaahhh* (just some tea for you queens in case you attempt to check them out and can’t find them) I was flipping through a rack and was immediately drawn to the colorway on this pair of wind pants my eyes landed on. I pulled them out to give them a thorough looksy and noticed the pattern on the leg, and the 3 stripes down the side…. Adidas baby! Something about the pattern really gave me those retro vibes we talked about earlier and since the colorway was within my comfort zone I had to give them a try.. right?

With A Twist

Even though I love my retro pieces and trends, I still have my limits when it comes to color and thank goodness these had that subtle pop I was looking for. Your girl can only do a pop of color here or there hahahaha but I think we’ve established that by now *haha* I decided to go for something a little different when it came to styling these up and I honestly felt, I had to do them justice with a little mesh… *shrug* I mean mesh does get the job done when you’re wanting that edgy touch. Long sleeve mesh is even better, there’s a level of sexiness that comes with the sheer fabric over your arms and the fact that you’re fully covered is just uffffperfect. I still wanted that sporty feel so I decided to add a higher necked sports bra underneath to seal the deal. You can opt for a racer back tank or even a bandeau top if you’re wanting a different vibe.

If you are anti mesh you can pair a retro wind pant with a cropped oversized sweater or a button up bodysuit to get the same feel. Head wear is obviously optional but I prefer to style it in when I’m going for a more casual sporty look. I felt things were getting a little TOO “matchy matchy” so I went for my “Yeezy 350 Zebra’s” that I knew would add that POP and bring this look back where it needed to be. You can wear a fit like this anywhere and for any occasion, you could easily ditch the head wear, add a denim jacket over your shoulders, add a stacked hiking boot, and you’re ready for a night out with the girls! You know I got you queens with a few of my favorite retro pieces and how I would rock them.

So what’s the vibe beauties? Are we diggin more “retro” pieces? What’s something that brings back memories for you? Do you feel you should go full “retro” when styling a look or do you like the idea of mixing a blast from the past with a current trend? Fill your gurl in!

Cheers!
