SOFT STREETWEAR

SOFT STREETWEAR

Hey Beauties! (the time has come… stay tuned) Streetwear has taken the world by storm and for good reason. The casual like aesthetic and comfort aspect of the style is what’s truly setting off the trend alarms. Streetwear is for everybody, it’s for all shapes, sizes, and genders. However, it’s a style that takes a certain confidence and willingness to stand out.

“Soft Streetwear”? How it all started…

Most people know me from TIKTOK (you probably came from there) and know that I speak on all things fashion but my niche is streetwear. I was mentioned in a video by one of my followers (@chaleaherron) of a fellow creator who was asking for help in finding a new style. I decided to duet the video and give her my recommendation. I knew right off she would look dope in a more casual streetwear vibe and wanted to give her visual recommendations as I was sharing my thoughts. “Soft Streetwear” was born while I was filming that video. I said something along the lines of “Streetwear but softer” boom“Soft Streetwear” I immediately knew that this was the term needed to classify the ever so popular more simple form of streetwear that was making its way onto the scene.

I went on to use the term a few times and before you know it.. there were requests coming from everywhere asking about “Soft Streetwear” and people were already identifying with the style themselves. It was from one day to the next that “Soft Streetwear” was born and I had to let everyone in on the scoop.

LET ME BREAK IT DOWN

Streetwear is a style that demands attention and requires creativity and a certain edge everytime an outift is being created or styled. Is it realistic to dress like this every time you set foot out into the world? It sure is… is it likely? probably not 🙂 Streetwear is loud in print and design, it’s bulky and extra. There’s a tactical yet fashion forward feeling to the style and the more accessories you layer, the better. So what about the days that you’re rolling out for a quick shopping trip or brunch with the crew? You want to maintain the aesthetic but you aren’t in the mood to drip yourself in chains, straps, and layers or maybe you like the simpler stylings and pairings of streetwear and want to incorporate those pieces into your wardrobe… I now introduce you to “SOFT STREETWEAR”.

*Funny Story… I woke up to this gem above after hopping on TIKTOK live the night before speaking on the fact that I am now seeing the term “Soft Streetwear” being used by others and wanted to revisit how the term came to be and how I came up with it. This has to be the best DM I’ve received to date.

DON’T GET IT TWISTED

Soft Streetwear is a more simple streetwear pairing, not to be confused with “basic” by any means. Basic? we don’t know her *insert hair flip* This is the point that I want to make extremely clear... a softer look is still as effective as a true streetwear look its just a more “everyday” appropriate style. There’s still a certain level of effort that goes into styling a softer look and this is the difference from throwing on a basic white crop top, ripped jeans and a pair of AF1 *no shade*

Soft Streetwear is about adding those different elements to an outfit to show effort. An oversized graphic tee which is among others the staple of STREETSTYLE in general can be paired in several ways but what will you add to show that effort? Above you can see that Outfit 1 could have easily been paired with blue denim jeans and the look would have been sufficient.. she went one step further and simply added white denim instead *mind blown* and look at the difference it made to her fit. EFFORT..

In Outfit 2 you can see again a shorts and graphic tee pairing but instead of reaching for denim shorts as most would admittedly do, she went for a jogger short and crew socks. A cycle short would have been a sufficient pairing as well but rides the line as expected so again, EFFORT..

Outfit 3 is my favorite to dissect since its base layers are arguably the most basic of the 3. The fact that the jeans aren’t skinny jeans and have a more relaxed vibe is setting the tone to the outfit (baggy=trendy/streetstyle) so we gather that at first glance. Black crop top? meh… O.K. I get it, it’s an easy choice a safe selection.. it’ll do but the fact that the flannel was added on top… EFFORT.

That simple addition brought the look full circle and by going a step further and adding that chunkier sneaker made for the perfect combination.

Now that you got the scoop let’s compare again:

Streetwear: Loud prints, colors, accessories, and layers

Soft Streetwear: Simple, casual, and minimal

Here are 3 of my favorite affordable Soft Streetwear parings:

Lewk 1:

Top|Pants|Shoes

Lewk 2:

Top|Flannel|Jeans|Sneakers

Lewk 3:

Sweater|Cargos|Sneakers

So what’s the vibe? Do you see yourself branching into the world of streetwear but maybe taking the Soft Streetwear route first? What’s your biggest questions when it comes to this style of clothing? Fill your gurl in!
