THRIFTED GEM

THRIFTED GEM

Hey Beauties! (am fighting myself daily on buying a new fall wardrobe when it’s currently 95 degrees where I live *sigh*) When you are blessed by the thrift guides, you don’t question or contemplate that blessing... you snatch up that gem no matter what the case may be. Ok..Ok… enough of the dramatics. I was rolling through a newly discovered thrift shop in Austin Texas called “Pavement” (thank you TikTok for the very specific FYP) and when I’m in the “thrift zone” I have no limits.. you’ll catch me looking in departments I don’t even pay any mind to elsewhere.

I found myself in the women’s tee’s which I don’t frequent like EVER since I’m part of the “baggy tee gang” and stay in the men’s department for that *wink* BUT in a thrift store, you cover EVERY corner of the store.

OH, SHE “ON X-GAMES MODE”

I swear my hands are in “X-GAMES MODE” when I’m flipping through piece by piece metal hangers scraping the rack and all. I must have flipped through at least 100 tops on 4 different racks before I stumbled across an Original 2000’s design “Ed Hardy” tee *gasp* Like any normal person would, I held up the shirt to get a better look at it and immediately noticed how small and slim fit it actually was. A part of me almost put it back until I came to my senses and reminded myself… I’m Modish Champagne and I will make this work and style it to fit MY way.

“MY BODY DIFFERENT…”

If you aren’t comfortable rocking more fitted clothing, the best thing to do is to add balance to your fit by pairing baggier pieces with them. I kept this tip in mind when I was putting this outfit together. I knew I wanted a more streetwear pairing with this tee and had the perfect pair or strapped cargo pants to go with them. The pants weren’t the baggiest I own so once I had them paired together, I knew I needed more. The fit alone this way would work but it was a little too “easy” so I had to hit em’ with more. Next resort would be to add a flannel, button up shirt, or jacket to bring back the slouchy vibe. This XL button up leather shirt did exactly what I needed it to.

DON’T OVERTHINK IT

If you’re ever trying to get away with wearing tighter base layers in a Streetwear way, whether it’s a more slim fit bottom or in this case a tighter top… let the add-ons do the work. Add your favorite oversized shirt or tee and see how you feel. Once I add a piece to my fit and start to feel myself all the doubt is washed away and I black out.. *haha* I wake up fully decked in chains, a bucket hat, my favorite Comme des Garcons X Jordan 1’s and anything else I can throw on. Let the accessories of your choice be the cherry on top of a look and don’t be afraid to pile them on. Accessories and layers give the fit character and lets other know you look this “FRESH TO DEATH” on purpose.

*You know I got you babes with a few examples of perfectly paired Streetstyle looks... *wink*

So as you can see… Balance is key and easily achievable. These are all perfect examples of what a few add-ons and accessories can do for a look. Take these examples as inspo and manipulate them to fit your style aesthetic. *wink*

I’m sending you all the luck to find your favorite vintage tee (if you don’t already own one) and encourage you to try sites like EBay and Depop if you’re in the market for one.

So what’s the vibe? Are you going to try playing with balance and pair tighter pieces with baggier add-ons? What’s your hidden thrift gem? Fill your gurl in!

Cheers,
