VIVA VELVET

VIVA VELVET

Hey Beauties! (scrolling through Netflix) I am MODISH CHAMPAGNE and I am 100% addicted to black. I am in no way denying it or will even try to hide it. There are things that catch my attention every now and again in a color other than black but it’s rare.

I can usually feel myself hitting rock bottom and pump the brakes by adding a pop of color or a different fabric, and this was one of those days. I purchased all these pieces separately at different times and honestly put them together by accident. I love the power of an “all one fabric” look, whether it’s all denim, leather, or in this case; velvet. I was trying to find this velvet bodysuit for a different occasion and was tugging at everything velvet in my closet (hangers get stuck together, clothes get packed a little too tight and you know the rest. I tugged at the Adidas leggings right before the bodysuit and BOOM.. that’s how this fit made its way into the “winners circle”.

TOUCHY TOUCHY

I came across this bodysuit (in store) at Forever 21 while I was looking for a lace bralette in the lingerie section. It was extremely odd to me that it was in that area but like any foreign fabric, I had to touch it and since it was black, of course I was fully engaged. I noticed that It was quite sturdy and structured with limited stretch to it, I knew it would suck me in at ALL the right places.

I’m a little weird about trying on bodysuits in store so the fact that it was less than $15.00, I went ahead and just purchased it. Random thought: I find it so interesting how everyone has their own fitting room protocol. I know people that MUST try everything on no matter what and I know others that don’t try anything on and have no problem with returning or exchanging. I personally don’t ever try on tops or bodysuits (especially stores I frequent, and my sizing is consistent) unless I’m going for an oversized fit and want to test the bagginess. Jeans or shorts are a must since I am a little more bottom heavy “shawty in the back she say she working on her glutes…yEaH” *wink* I seriously hate the hassle of having to do a return or exchange (1st world problems) but seriously my brain registers it as a task and it’s all downhill from there. Here is a MODISH approved bodysuit alternative from Yandy.

Come On Be Honest

Do you try everything on? or are you a “go with the flow” kinda queen? Anywho, back to the tea.. I got home and tried on this velvet delight of a bodysuit and was absolutely right, it sucked everything in and was great quality. It snatched me up and kept everything intact. I love when I find hidden gems in affordable stores.. it’s like applying your lash perfectly on the first try.. unmatched success. I wore it for my outing and sadly forgot about it.

I was headed out for dinner and some casual barhopping but decided I wanted to wear something a little more fitted and MODISH, in case I ended up somewhere calling for that vibe. I utilize layers to achieve this versatility, simply adding a jacket can give you a look for no matter what the day/night brings. Leave the jacket on or tied around the waist for a more chill vibe or throw it over your shoulders with out putting your arms through for something a little chicer. I was in Urban Outfitters the first time I saw a pair of velvet Adidas joggers and literally gasped for air, I was obsessed but wasn’t convinced with the burgundy colorway they had (can you guess what color I was hoping for? You guessed it, BLACK)

I later saw the leggings in the same color way and then the matching jacket and even a hat at one point and was growing anxious. I already owned a velvet AdidasXPharrell Williams track jacket and needed something (anything) from the brand in velvet to pair it with. Finally, unexpectedly, I was back in Urban Outfitters a few weeks later and an employee was literally rolling a rack of new Adidas gear over to a display table. I take “New Arrivals” seriously and sure did pretend to look at something around her to unsuspectedly creep.

What An Aura

I saw her hang some jackets and there they were, the tights of my dreams just hanging there (black with black stripes) ready to be put out for the world. With no shame in my game, I asked her if I could just grab my size “really quick” if you add that phrase after anything it’s like saying.. hey queen, I know you need to get this merch on the floor but I’m not willing to “fake browse” till you’re done to snag one up. Thankfully she was super chill and passed me my size. Your gurl didn’t even look at the price and went straight to the register. Here is the link for thee leggings from Zumiez. They are currently sold out but keep an eye out, Zumiez is good for re-stocks. *wink*

I don’t even remember what I went in there for to begin with but whatever it was, it didn’t compare to this treasure. Of course, these tights took precedent and went straight to “next” in rotation. It was time to style my fit and I went straight to my closet for the jacket and tights. I always like to put one of the confirmed pieces on while I look for its “perfect match”. As soon as I put the tights on, I was reminded of that snatched feeling I felt in the Forever 21 bodysuit and it was like a slot machine in Vegas going off.. WE GOT ANOTHER WINNER…It was a match and I was set.

Streetwear Ready

The velvet base topped with the velvet jacket was next level DOPE and I was ready to be seen in this fit that has literally been in the works for at least a month at this point haha. I stuck with Adidas and paired my Zebra Yeezy’s because the MOOD was that big at this point. Having the jacket really gave me the luxury of “day to night” I tied the jacket around my waist for the daytime festivities and threw it over my shoulders when it was time to come correct. Thanks to how bomb I felt this day in particular, I’m obsessed with black velvet *shrug*.

Cheers,
