SUERTE ATX

SUERTE ATX

Hey Beauties! (am watching horror movies till Thanksgiving … thank you so much *hair flip*) Your gurl tried out a new spot for brunch and you know I had to share all the deets with you. I refuse to start this convo with “I was in Austin Texas” like sis.. It’s dead and buried, we get it… you LOVE Austin! Damn right I do!! okkkuurr! So, I was in my “second home” and just like clockwork, the Sunday brunch squad that lives in my brain were stomping around causing a ruckus as if I didn’t go H.A.M. sandwich the night before and needed my beauty sleep! “I’ M UP……. I’M UP….” In true MODISH CHAMAGNE fashion, SundayFunday was in full swing. It was ACL weekend and the downtown area was “poppin” I partied on the west side of 6th street the night before and was ready to brunch it up on the East side now.

“Oh You Fancy Huh?”

Trendy brunch spots on E. 6TH Street Austin, Texas” was dialed in to my search engine and all systems were a GO! NoNoHmmMaybePossiblyYasssss <- was the vibe of my scrolling. Let me admit a total basic b**ch moment in saying that the name (“Suerte”) is what originally drew me to the place. “Contemporary spot serving interior Mexican specialties & snacks, beer, wine & craft cocktails”. Swiping through the “Google” photos was just a bonus, they were so appealing! The food looked delicious, the drinks appeared on point and the aesthetic was more trendy and “upscale”. It wasn’t “fancy” by any means but definitely a switch up from what I normally gravitate towards. I was down for a “lil somethin’ somethin” different and uppity… hey, my outfit this day called for it anyway so it’ s a win win. Driving down E.6th was a whole mood, people were everywhere and ready to get their day started. Austin is already dope in the fact that everyone dresses however they please and give zero effs as to what others think. The fact that it was a festival weekend just added a little more “sparkle” to the city.

Sunday’s Best

The location was easy to find, and I noticed there was valet parking available. I personally park on the sides of the streets or a lot since it never fails (at least for me) that everyone seems to pick the same time to leave a restaurant and we’re all waiting around awkwardly full and tipsy waiting for our car (that I am not driving by the way because drinking and driving  is a no no.. PSA ends now) Finding parking somewhere along the side is how I was living this day and I was lucky enough to find one close. Walking up to this modern yet vibey spot was a new feel for me on a SUNDAY and I was ok with it. I must say the entrance door was everything! A large wooden surface with incredible colored detailing was really setting the tone upon arrival. Look at me even talking fancier… “oh you fancy huh?”.. kinda sorta okkkkk.

Walking in to a well lit, extremely lively, and well kept establishment was just what I needed. There was a mix of dining tables, booths, and high top tables throughout the restaurant in an open floor plan. All the decor was neutral toned and bright. I appreciated how every piece was different but meshed perfectly together. It’s safe to say that even if you had a wait it shouldn’t be too long. I was greeted immediately by two bubbly hostesses and was told there was a 35 minute wait. I wasn’t opposed to waiting since I was digging the ambience and vibe of the place.

Patiently Drinking.. huh?

I stood for a bit and realized that guests around me (who were also waiting) had drinks in hand and I wanted to partake. I glanced over the menu and saw they had a list of specialty brunch cocktails. I really enjoyed that they had their own twist on common cocktails. I decided on a “Bloody Mary” to start and was asked if I wanted their version of the cocktail or a traditional one. Being put on the spot like that, I felt obligated to try their version of my favorite hangover cure.  I appreciated being able to basically start my tab with the hostess and begin my experience. I noticed that the flow of people waited was really moving fairly quickly and knew I would be sat before the expected 35 minute wait time. Sure enough, I was brought my drink and was asked if “bar seating” was acceptable… Umm yess!! I am never opposed to sitting at the bar and actually at times, prefer it.

The bar was so detailed and just the few feet I had to walk to make it to my stool I was able to scope everything out and peek at everyone’s plates. It was looking good and I was pleased with my decision so far. I could tell right away that the food they were serving were spot on to the photos I was seeing online. SCORE! Random pointer: the stool was heavy, hahaha! I legit had to use some muscle to scoot it out. Everything was beautiful and had a contemporary modern feel to it.

“Agua Y Sombra”

I was pleased with my “Lucky Maria” a.k.a. Bloody Mary but it was definitely different.  I could tell that it was fresh ingredients and had more of a stout taste where all the additives were raw and didn’t come from a premade mix.  I was intrigued to try something else as the taste of this did become over powering after a while. I can’t stress the fact that the customer service was on point enough! I was asked multiple times by the 2 bartenders working if I needed anything even while they were slammed making drink after drink for the entire restaurant. Scanning the cocktail menu I went for the “Agua Y Sombra” mainly because it called for Vodka. Vodka, sherry, peach leaf, lemon were the only ingredients listed if that presses my point that the drinks were fresh and not loaded with components.

I was watching in awe as these 2 bartenders were slanging drinks the entire time I was sitting there and they still managed to have small talk with me from time to time. My second drink choice was ready and the presentation was simple yet “Instagram worthy” haha. A small stemmed glass with this “lemonade like” substance garnished with a leaf and small clothes pin.  I had to snap a few pics before my first sip (it was a must) Side Note:  the lighting in here was exceptional; everything was bright and minimal so the light was bouncing off everything just flawlessly. Perfect selfie/photo lighting for sure.

Just as expected, it was fresh, natural, and refreshing in taste. They were extremely generous with the pour and I appreciated that since the glass it was served in, was on the smaller side. The taste gave off more of a lemon flavor and a slight hint of peach was present. It was easy to drink but I did find myself taking my time finishing it since the citrus was very present it was enjoyable and not something I wanted to chug. I did order breakfast and can tell you that the portions were smaller in my opinion at first glance BUT, once I was finished eating and drinking, I was not too stuffed and perfectly satisfied.

Loosen Those Purse Strings

I highly recommend this restaurant for brunch if you want somewhere a little trendier, indoors, and fresh. I do need to make my way back for dinner and see the vibe. There was a steady flow of people and a wait was still forming as I was leaving.  Don’t expect to pay less than $11-$13 for these cocktails. This is standard for me and I don’t really think twice about it but I was a little taken back (reminded) that this obvi isn’t the norm for everyone.

Two girls were seated right next to me at the bar and took one look at the menu and made a comment about the prices then literally walked out. My bartender and I made eye contact like “did you just hear that” and he proceeded to tell me “it happens all the time”. No shade, just keep this in mind if you plan on checking them out.  I personally don’t care about cost when it comes to my cocktails and experience.

So what do we think? Are we going back to “Suerte“? Do you prefer a more “trendier” restaurant to enjoy your bunch? Do you prefer the raw, low-key, music geared brunch spots that I usually give you the 411 on? Fill your gurl in!
